Circles and Trapezoids

I am making progress with my 'January' blocks for the 2014 Project.

I was worried that block one was a bit stretched on the bias and that block two wasn't very circular. However, when I added the first 'border', firstly, I was excited that they fit into the hole the first border makes and secondly, that block one doesn't look stretched and that block two evened itself up.

Both blocks will now have another 'border' added made up of eight trapezoids. (I had to google trapezoid. I thought they were parallelograms. That'd be why I don't teach maths.)

Where would we be without freezer paper?

PS The pattern is The Circle Game by Jen Kingwell.

  1. Haha - I don't know what a trapezoid is either. Your blocks look great - so neat and tidy.

  2. The blocks are so beautiful and as usual you've done a great job. All I have to do is figure out how to do them on a machine...

  7. pretty amazing! yes, thank goodness for freezer paper. I was starting to feel I'd branched out in my sewing skills, but this is beyond anything I'm attempting. I'm going after gypsy wife, which looks complicated, but isn't really as bad as first glance. all these circles, however, . . . good luck!

  10. Your blocks look wonderful. I love how different they look in the different colourways.

So, are you hand or machine sewing? What are you doing with adding the seam allowance with tracing out the templates?
