The Clothed Rabbit
It pays not to throw anything away. New(er) sewing machine is away being fixed. Fortunately, old sewing machine is still around so I whipped up Maggie the Rabbit's dress. The dress was the hardest part of the whole process ... too wide on the shoulders, elastic tricky to get around the sleeves and neck, blah. However, she's finished and the living on the bookshelf next to my Lucas and Lucy book collection until Baby Lucy's birthday.

Rabbit Boots
Mmmm, snuggly. This part of the pattern was the hardest to visualise, so I had to read and re-read the instructions a couple of times. I stuffed the toes with rabbit stuffing since Maggie the Rabbit has no feet just legs.
PS Baby Lucy's pink wool coat has gone down a treat. She definitely has room to grow into it. I love sewing for people who don't sew - they think it's so much harder than it really is and consequently, think I am so much cleverer than I am!

A Rabbit in a Capelet!
I am working on a rabbit for baby Lucy. My sewing machine has packed a sad, so I am only able to do hand sewing projects at the moment ... I quite like hand sewing.
I bought the pdf pattern from Alicia Paulson and the wool mix grey felt from Spotlight. The ear lining is from in my stash and when the sewing machine is better, I will whip up her dress from this fabric also from the stash ... both are from my paisley phase.
I also managed to knit Maggie the Rabbit a capelet. It's been ages since I did any knitting, but it all came back. This is probably as sophisticated as my knitting gets. I have bought a pattern for a cool cardi for the rabbit with holes in the hood for her ears. I will take that home to Mum in the hols for her to knit!
Now onto her turquoise felt boots!
PS Still no sign of small camera or big camera's cord. I did find big camera's second battery though.

A Cat and a Beach
Nephew Lucas turns one next week, so I have made him a big brown cat with an orange tummy and ears to go with his Leopold the Cat book!
And I've been down to Papamoa in the Bay of Plenty. We spent a couple of days visiting two other new schools this week including the new Yr 7 - 13 school at Papamoa. These are early morning beach photos.

Our Critters for Chch
With one week left in the term, I have posted our critters from the Wednesday afternoon module at school off to Leonie @ kiwi at heart.
Some may be more suited to the spca for amusing animals rather than actual humans. I am hoping it is the thought that counts. And it is good for kids to do things for the community.

Softies for Chch
Today we got 5 or 6 critters finished.
Sometimes we lost an ear and couldn't be bothered sewing another one. Sometimes we didn't make arms and/or legs. Oh well. I am hoping it is the thought that counts.
Either way, the girls are enjoying themselves sewing every Wednesday afternoon and tell me they are coming back in Term 2 for more! They can now all thread up a sewing machine which makes them more independent.

A Clowder of Cats and One Rabbit
All for Softies for Christchurch's Children. The Rabbit I will use as a prototype for school - we will make them bigger though. It's hard for kids to sew small curves and we will place the ears closer to the top of the head! Eek.

I used wool for the cats. The blue came from Designer Textiles in Otara last winter and the plaid I bought on trade me - it feels like suit material. The rabbit is made from an old shirt. I might use it to start making some hexagons.
Lucy the Cat kept an eye on things from her feather pillow. I think a feather pillow must make a cat feel very superior - think of all the birds it took to make!

Softies for Christchurch's Children
I read this morning that Leonie over at Kiwi at Heart has started a softies for children in Christchurch campaign.

I think we will take a break from Santa Sacks for Starship this Wednesday and the next few Wednesdays and turn our attention to Softies for Christchurch's Children.
It looks like a warzone down there.

Meow
The cats have now gone to their new families - for the Kilpatrick and Salins sons. Might experiment with some bigger ones next year.
