Progress! I have made 14 sets of hexagons - bound to need lots more - but I have started joining them together with white ones to get a better idea of how it's going to look. It is very colourful!
After the first few hexagons which were a bit mixy-matchy, I have tried to make them more homogenous (makes me think of the
Count Homogenized TV programme from when I was a kid - which after googling for a link I have just discovered was made in NZ!). So now I have pink hexies, green (the top one above), orange (the bottom one) and purple hexie flowers (the middle). I hope this will make the quilt look less random. The Kaffe Fassett fabrics, from 2007 according to the selvedge, are so soft.
Each side of each hexagon measures 1 3/4". I am glad I didn't make the hexies any smaller because I like seeing some progress after all my hand sewing.
On a side note, if you are interested in modern quilts and modern quilting, we (
Jacqui,
Megan and I) have written a series of posts on
Modern Quilting over at the Auckland Modern Quilt Guild website.
oh how we love hexies!! looking good and totally know what you mean about seeing some progress when doing EPP. x
ReplyDeleteThat is some impressive hand sewing! Love the white around it - really emphasises the colours!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kristy. I think it makes it look quite summery - perfect in our winter!
DeleteYour hexies look great Karyn. I think I should have made bigger ones like yours!
ReplyDeleteIt does feel like you are making progress when they are a bit bigger!
Deletethese are beautiful hexagons...
ReplyDeleteThanks, Leslie!
DeleteHello, I'm dropping by from the WIP Wednesday link party.
ReplyDeleteYour hexies are so pretty. The finished quilt is going to be bright and colourful.
I hope so! I might be tempted to keep it rather than gift it!
DeleteVery pretty! I love the colors you chose and how the white "border" enhances them!
ReplyDeleteI have had the fabric put away for years for another project! I was trying not to buy more fabric (-:
DeleteVery, very lovely! I think "matching" them is the better way to go too!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Dee!
DeleteThese are so pretty, I recognize many of the fabrics!
ReplyDeleteI've got another diamonds quilt in the works, with white, that have many of these same brights in it!
