AMQG Wonky Star Blocks

In order to pay for our swish new website, members of the Auckland Modern Quilt Guild are making blocks that will be put together into one big beautiful quilt that we will raffle off.

This afternoon I got busy cutting, pinning, sewing and ironing. My maths was bad so I ended up with enough pieces for 5 blocks. (I have only photographed 4 for the sake of a well-balanced photo!)

I have quite a collection of red fabrics and I have been keen for a while to make a red quilt. But none of the pregnant ladies I have been making baby quilts for have been finding out the gender of their expected babies until well after the quilts have been started if at all, so I haven't been able to make girly quilts!

The centre of the top right star is from Aunty Cookie and the other three centres are from the red owl print by Saffron Craig. Two Australians!

The best instructions, in my opinion, for making wonky stars can be found at Oh, Fransson! Today's stars started as 3.5" squares. The ones I used for Jane's Quilt are 4.5" squares. I think I like them a bit bigger.

  1. These are really cute blocks! I had to laugh at the comment about the maths - I do that all the time!

  2. Oh they look great Karyn! I did another one today, a bit more like in the instructions, but I'm not in love with it.
