My 2014 Project

I was looking for a BOM for 2014. While I got a bit sick of making stars last year, I liked having a block a month to keep things ticking over. I wanted something that would challenge me this year. I couldn't find any BOMs that I really liked, but I did find a pattern with 16 blocks that I think will keep me busy and challenge me. I plan to complete two blocks per month. We will see how that goes.

So far the project has been lots of hand sewing which in turn means freezer paper templates and ironing.

I have cut into my Mama Said Sew black dots - I have been 'saving' this fabric. And on my way to Hamilton yesterday I called into Grandmother's Garden sale and bought the top fabric - the flowery one. The rest of the fabrics have come (and will continue to come!) from the stash.

I know it's not very smart to have a handsewing project and a handquilting project going on at the same time. But I do enjoy handsewing - it's slow and quiet. And, besides, the handquilting project is still unbasted, lying on the floor!

  1. Oh this is going to be gorgeous!! Funny - I bought a jelly roll of 1930's fabric from GMG last year that included that top fabric! Love it!

  5. Cannot wait to see this! I love to have some hand sewing on hand also. Been without it for a while so I am working on some crochet when I sit in my chair at night.

  6. oh I bet that is going to be just lovely! I sorta hate hand sewing, but thats mainly because I am crap at it lol. I wish I could learn to be better at it, I guess its going to require practice though!

  7. I love a good hand sewing project! Although I tend to be good at starting them and not finishing them. ;)
Those swirling patches are quite intriguing! Looks like a beautiful block

  9. Nothing wrong with having a hand sewing and hand quilting project on the go. Besides hand quilting is better done in winter when you want to be kept warm at the same time.
