One Block Wonder - binding

I have cut and made the binding for one of my One Block Wonders I said I would get finished this 'quarter'. I was very pleased to find something on the shelf. I think I bought it when I visited Fabricworm last July.

Now to actually get it sewn down.

Binding

I had a productive weekend. I got all four quilts squared up and I made and sewed down one edge of the binding.

I had some Silent Cinema left over from this 2011 quilt, so used it.

I decided to use the blue-grey of the background in this binding with a few pieces of the brighter blue added for colour.

This quilt forced me to visit Ribbon Rose where I was very tempted by the Kaffe purple with red spots, but went with this black and white-grey egg fabric instead.

And for the bee trees, I was going to go with brown but the only big enough piece of brown I had in the stash was too red. As I was cutting off the excess batting and backing, I thought 'why not just use this?' So I did.

Binding Blue and Yellow Stars

My plan for this week is to get two quilts finished.

Firstly, the blue and yellow stars quilt. I see I started it one year ago. That's ridiculous. I think the problem is I started it for someone and then started another one for that same person so it had no purpose. Anyway, it's been close to finished for months. A few hours on Monday saw the quilting finished and the binding sewn on. I didn't want to start the hand sewing of the binding until I picked up my new clips from Helen. The clips are in place, so the hand sewing can commence.

I am also making progress with the quilting on baby Lucy's In the Neighbourhood quilt. I plan to get her quilt finished this week too.

Quilting Finished

Yay ... I didn't let myself go to bed until I had finished all the quilting on Aunty Judy's Wonky Log Cabin. Consequently, I have one sore underneath the quilt needle poked finger.

Lucy the Cat was a great help - trying to sleep under the quilt as it was being quilted.

I attached the binding today and it's ready to be handsewn down.

Binding Ready

I decided to go with the aqua fabric for the binding my Aunt's Wonky Log Cabin. I have cut the binding four inches wide so I can experiment with a wider than usual border. I think (hope!) I have just enough length by my dodgy measuring skills.

I hope to get the binding on over Queen's Birthday Weekend and the quilting finished this week.

This Feels Familiar

It doesn't seem that long ago I was binding the Leicester Square quilt, and here I am at it again.



Even Closer

Binding cut, binding sewn together, quilting finshed (despite Lucy the Cat trying to give the quilt a test sleep), binding sewn on.

This week - hand sewing the back of the binding to the quilt.

The End is in Sight

Not that I am all about getting it finished so I can start a new one. I just like seeing what they look like after months of work.

I bought the binding for the Leicester Square Quilt this morning at Patchwork Passion. I imagined I would buy green or even blue, but no, pink suited the best. I aim to have the quilting finished by the end of the weekend.

And then ... maybe the grey and green? Although I did get two packages from Fabricworm in the mail this morning. I just can't help myself.

Oh, and I have joined the Auckland Modern Quilt Guild. Not sure I know enough to be part of a guild. Oh well, soon see.

Why You Should Wash it When You Buy It ...

... because when you get home earlier than usual and are all enthusiastic about cutting and sewing the binding, you can't. You have to wash the fabric.

Instead of binding I vaccuumed and washed floors and made pumpkin and bacon pasta for tea. I suppose I should not complain really. I did achieve something.
