Today a few of us from our Modern Monday group travelled down to Hamilton to check out the annual quilt and craft show. These quilts took my eye -
I am not a fan of denim in quilts at all, but I like the rest of the piecing and the hand stitching.
I have a completed quilt top made of old blankets. I really like the colours in this one ... and the hand stitching.
I like these border ideas.
And you can't go past a quilt with circles! I know how hard it is to get them to fit together.
Robyn said this one reminded her of Megan's quilt. Wait! It is Megan's quilt!

Quilt show in Coatesville
There was a range of quilts on display at the Bays' Patchwork Group's outdoor quilt show on Sunday. The majority of the quilts were what I would label traditional. And while they weren't all my cup of tea, there was a lot of skill to admire. Many of the quilts showed how much quilting adds to the quilt.
Here are some that I admired -
Here are some that I admired -
Traditional Baskets by Joy Wiseman. Quilted by Susan Trendall.
Square Mint made and quilted by Judi Schon
Beautiful applique by Joy Wiseman and quilted by Susan Trendall.
Think I might have to google Joy Wiseman, because this is another one of hers. Quilted by Judy Schon.
I feel I have seen this one before. Maybe at Festival of Quilts in November? I like the quilting by Judi Schon.
I like that this one was made from corduroy. I haven't seen a quilt made from cord before. It is by Stephanie Dawes.
I thought this one, above, was quite different from the others in the show. It is by Lynne Johnson and made from recycled saris.
This is my personal favourite from the whole show. It was made by Jenny Renner.
As I said, it was an outdoor show and it would have been beautiful if the sun was shining and it was not drizzling. I would probably go again next year - if the weather was better or I took an umbrella with me.

Christmas in November
Calico Christmas is soooooooooooooo much better than the budget Hamilton Craft Show. Way more quilts on display. Way more merchants. Just waaay better.
I liked these quilts:
I liked these quilts:
This is a Patchwork Passion kit and would be dead easy for a complete novice. I love the colours.
I don't really like the colours (I am not a batik fan at all), but I like the pattern ... and it was made by a 13 year old!
I love the colours in this one too. It was made by Alison Laurence.
And I bought this one for a mere $130 - you couldn't buy the fabric for that. The Auckland Patchwork and Quilt Guild had lots of quilts for sale. Mine is a 'community quilt' and money raised from its sale will help buy new fabric etc to make quilts for Starship, Women's Refuge, etc ... so really me buying it was a charitable thing to do!
I bought it planning to put it on the single bed in one of the spare rooms. It measures about 1.5 x 1.85m. Lucy the Cat quickly made herself at home on it - here she is mid-wash.
I also bought three fat quarters - one to give away at our Christmas meeting of the AMQG later in November and I thought the other two would be funky key fabrics for baby quilts. They are by Echino and are linen weight/feel.
Calico Christmas runs again tomorrow at North Harbour Stadium in Albany from 10am - 4pm. It costs $12 to get it.
